School Council

We have a proud School Council here at Eastbury Primary School. Councillors are elected by their peers and each class, from Year 1 to Year 6, has a representative. You can recognise our councillors by the yellow “School Council” badge that they wear.

We hold regular face-to-face School Council meetings for KS1 and KS2 with Mrs Marais. We come prepared to share our ideas and suggest solutions to make Eastbury Primary School even better! Watch this space for our next project.

In 2023 – 2024, we made a GREAT start with School Councillors being elected and our very first face to face meeting being help in the Autumn term.

Throughout the year we worked together as a team to brainstorm different “no equipment” games that can be played. We created a bank of these and shared with teachers to use during playtimes and lunchtimes. We helped to create a rota for the MUGA so that different year groups have a turn to play in it each day.

We worked together to ensure that the hot dinners served at lunch time were good. We asked that year 5 and 6 swop their lunch times to ensure there was enough at the end of the lunch time slot. We were able to introduce tomato sauce to the fish and chips meal on Fridays! We helped children vote for and choose a “Buddy bench” to be used in the playground to support children who do not have anyone to play with.

And perhaps most excitingly, the Year 1 and 2 children went on a school trip to the Barking Town Hall. We met the leader of the council, Darren Rodwell. It was very exciting to see how the work we do at school is on a smaller scale of that that is done in the Town Hall.

The Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 children went on a school trip to the Houses of Parliament. They took part in a tour of the House of Commons and the House of Lords. They also enjoyed a workshop where they learnt about how laws are debated and made.

In 2024 – 2025, we hope to continue to make positive changes at Eastbury Primary School and ensure that children have a voice, that they are heard and valued.

Our newly elected council will meet regularly during the term to discuss many issues.
